Default Timing mark on a '77 FXE

I need to check the timing on my newly acquired '77 FXE. Should the timing mark be at the rear of the timing hole or in the middle of the hole. I've gotten some conflicting information in this regard. Also, what is proper point gap for this model?
Thanks in advance.
