Got some good help here on the dry clutch/pri oil issue, appreciate that.
So, I,m helping a friend route his oil lines and realized (knew it) that the pri oil line is plugged off. Why was there apri oiler on a dry clutch? I ask myself. Look into VIN #s and find that my 81 FXS has a motor from a 79 FXS80. WA LEO won't help unless they get their hands on it. Anybody know who can tell if a motor is hot or not? How to proceed if I can't find out? Thanks, Pat

First, since 1965 all four speeds have had a dry clutch ( except for a few 83-85 models) the oiler is for the primary chain, one mod. that was done was to block off the oil lines to the inner primary and add a few oz. of auto transmission fluid to lube the primary chain.
Second, Call your DMV or highway police and have them run the engine numbers, they will tell you pretty quick if it's hot and pretty slow if it's not.

Well theres another question. I was informed here that a dry clutch/ belt pri used no oil in the primary. Yay or nay?
LEO in WA won't run the #s unless they have the vehicle in hands, effectively making it illegal to sell used parts.

My bad! yeah the OEM belt drive bikes did not use oil in the primary. You might call another state's DMV office.
