Default 76 FXE Starter Wiring Questions

My restoration has moved from the forks to my least favorite subject - wiring! Much thanks to everyone who previously provided assistance allowing me to successfully rebuild my forks.

For unknown reasons (at this time) the former owner installed a functioning remote starter switch see pic 3 wired direct to the relay. My goal is to remove remote start switch & reconnect the ORIGINAL starter switch to working condition. My initial questions after accessing the area are:

1. See pic 1 for a red & green wire that were not connected to anything when I accessed the starter/oil tank area. They appear to be original wiring and go into the primary wire bundle leading along the top frame tube to the front of the bike. Does anyone know where these would terminate too? Could they be from the original starter switch?
2. See pic 2 for the loose short 4" red wire with broken terminal attached to the solenoid. Is this a ground and where would it terminate too?
3. Remote start button installation pic 3 - to be removed. Is that something bad or just glue that might be leaking out of solenoid?
Thanks in advance.

I can't tell what #1 is, I'm sure someone will help. Those connectors are what is throwing me off.

#2 is a ground wire, it goes to one of the nuts on the support bracket between the transmission, starter and oil tank.

#3 looks to me like gorilla glue was used to repair a broken solenoid. your choice to replace it if it works, but it's not good.

People switch the wiring around to prevent starter run-on if the solenoid sticks. Someone will post the updated circuit soon. I did it this way, because I have tiny buttons on my handlebars for the horn and starter, there is an additional relay. You won't need that with the stock buttons, just run a wire directly to the "S" terminal on the Ford relay.

good job joe that's a real easy read for some one

if your starter does not run on when you let go of the button a stock connect like that works great

if interested we have a mod for the starter run on

To avoid future problems I am going to do the run-on mod. Question: what is the part number of added relay and where is best place to mount?
General ? - Am I reading the wiring diagram correct that the 2 engine start switch wires ending at the engine side are: BLACK and terminates/grounds at the the neutral switch, and the other is WHITE ending at the ignition coil?? I want to test the start button itself.

I used a bosch realay - they are available from Amazon and other places. I mounted them under the gas tank. But they aren't necessary...

Here's how I made the solenoid jumper out of two ring connectors:

Default 1976 fxe starter wiring

What do the circled boxes and dashed lines that I've marked signify when you are physically looking at bike?

The boxes are protective sleeves over the wires; and I am guessing the dashed lines are optional equipment (electric start was only on FXE models)
