PS call John Bordas, he doesn't answer emails, at least for me. But he does answer the phone pretty quick. He did two for me this past winter, the one I just posted a pic of and one for my '46 WL. All top notch work.

RE: clamp on the front pipe. That clamp is required when using the 3-piece pipe . 1. header pipe from front exhaust port; 2. squish pipe that goes between frame and engine; 3. Y-pipe connecting squish pipe and rear exhaust pipe. There will be another clamp that is clamped to the frame. The two clamps are then connected with a single bolt. Looks like this...

That being said I do not know if that was still used on your year bike. The pics I have added are from my 49 EL. My 65 Pan does not have that system as the squish pipe and rear y-connector are a single piece. Looks like this:

But you bring up an interesting point and now I wonder is the double back clamps should be used on my 65 as well.

Thank you Architect for info on holes in fender. Yes, you never know what an old machine went through. I also tinker with 50 yr old JD combines, now there's some mystery and barn yard engineering to decipher. Also thanks for that photo. Notice your cables run down on both sides of frontend, that's nice. Yours is a '70, does your brake line mount to right side of fender or does it crossover under goose neck? I've heard of that but not sure if it's true. My front brake cable runs over to left side (sure you know that) near clutch cable, kind of messy.

Fields are to wet to harvest so I have a few days to start really looking things over on this bike. There is no line hooked up to oil pump for drive chain oiler and adjuster screw is turned in, so no, it's not blowing oil out. At this point it looks tuff to route one, but I am wondering where it mounts near chain? is it a rubber hose at chain or steel line? This pik is the vent tube from crank case. It has oil blowing out of it that's for sure, all over everything except chain. Thinking I should try to adjust mounting so it at least hits the side of chain instead of everything else. Or should I try to mount above chain so it does drip?

While looking at oil lines I also noticed a nut just sitting on the plate that the trans is mounted to. Then I noticed this clean thread bolt hanging from battery tray. Am I missing a bracket that would go from battery tray to that stud on the starter? There is a bracket that is mounted to the starter farther down, so the starter is not just hanging there.

I found 4 grease zerks. Rear brake pedal, swing arm, pogo seat rod, and seat pivot between tanks. Are there anymore?

Thank you

Architect, I forgot. Thanks for pik showing pipe clamps. Can't tell where on frame that would mount, on down tube before bend maybe. On mine there is no way for it to go any farther down, looks like pipe actually hits frame, way to tight

Re: your post #26 chain oiler

This is how I did it on my 78 FXE. Couldn't find any pics so this seemed like the mjost logical for me anyway...

Re: your post #27 screw on battery tray

That is one of 2 screws that attaches the starter relay to the bottom underside of the battery tray
