I'm not positive now why I had the washers there but that was just a section of an outer primary case I have to support the shaft while I tested the fit of the parts.
I think it was because the correct primary cover for the bike had the support bearing further recessed into the outer primary than that section I was using and I didn't want to bind or distort anything while I checked for freedom of movement.
That section of outer primary was snugged in place.
I'm gonna say that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
The whole bike was cobbled together with parts from many model and year bikes. I had a heck of a time figuring out what was needed to get an electric start to fit because the parts were from those transition years from chain to belt rear drive in the mid eighties.
It has one of the plate type shifter 4 speed transmissions; I don't know if you recall but 3 or 4 months ago I PM'd you and Twisted Biker about a shifting problem the trans had.
I don't recall if I thanked you guys but I did appreciate your trying to help me with that and I did eventually figure it out. That transmission thing was a strange issue.

you probably cant come up with an issue that the guys who hang in this forum have not seen before lots of experience and for some its actually fun helping or at lest sending in the correct direction

the washers caught my eye before anything else - but I get it I also believe you did not have a starter shaft washer installed But that is another post - hahahhahha glad your getting it sorted
