FXE gas tank question

FXE gas tank question
I am about to install a one- piece OEM gas tank onto my '77 FXE. I purchased that rubber horseshoe that steadies the tank.
Q--exactly where should that horseshoe piece be placed on the frame? Does it go on top of the speedo mount section or on the frame rail itself? ( Note: when i removed the tank, the po had a large sponge zip tied to the frame instead of the horseshoe.)

The Horseshoe is quite forward on the frame.. up against the Fatbob dash mount I think... I'll double check where I have it Tomorrow...
The Idea is to "rock" the hooks into place at the front, and Pull down at the Rear... O.E. Was a Springy Thing... POS as I recall
I use a fairly large o-ring ... hook one side...pass under the frame...and hook other side..

^^ Well done... I am not prepared to produce a Picture...
again... the Idea id to rock the tank on the Rubber thingy, to hook the front then roll on down against the "saddle" pieces, ant Latch with???? Springs??? Not me... try the Oring... won't ruin the Paint on the frame so quickly either...
BTW Panz; you gonna mount the ignition switch like an FXR ??? under the tank?
or is that picture deceiving my perception?

Doc, it may take some doing with new rubber. If it seems really too tight try using some WD-40 or even Widex to act as a lubricant. Also do you have the other rubber that is used to support the front of the tanks and the rubber and supports that holds the tanks level on the back.?
Ignition switch will be mounted under the tank on the top bracket that supports the motor to the frame.

I never had no problems getting a SuperGlide Tank down over the "saddle" or rubber Piece, but... Never used Aftermarket Parts either...
Mine are still O.E.!!!!
And absolutely ain't gonna be OK without the rear supports or Rubber Bumpers that the Rear of the tank is supposed to sit on when pulled down at the rear... The two "L" brackets attached where the Fat Bob rear bolts go to..

Hi, all! I know this is an old thread, but the pix I saw piqued my interest. I recently acquired a 1980 FXE 1200 which has a two piece tank installed, ala FXEF. No console or trim installed, just a broken speedo, and an ignition switch.
Are the FX frames for the different model variations the same, ie set up for two piece and one piece tanks? I want to keep the current tank set, but can't seem to figure out just what parts I need to find to complete the setup as is. I don't know just how the FXE and the FXE-F were the same, and what was different.
any info/tip would be appreciated
Thanks
Bam

Fat bobs are.... "Fat Bobs... nothing at all like FXE [FX also] One Piece tank...Fatbob requires a dash with speedo and ignition switch in it... the FX has the ignition at the rear, just in front of the Oil Tank, or [in the case of the FXR type] at the top motor mount.. while gauges were on the Handlebars...
