Default 73 Shovel Carb leak

Good morning all! Picked up a new bike this weekend, a 73 Shovel, and I have run into a strange issue. I came out to my garage this morning to the effervescent smell of raw gasoline. There were no visible leaks from the carb as it was sitting on the kickstand. However when I sat on the bike and brought the bike up to a riding position, off the kick stand, gasoline started pouring out from between the air cleaner and the intake of the Carb.

The Carb is a Super B and has this strange extra jet sticking out of the side. This jet was attached by a fuel hose to the bottom of the float bowl. This jet is what was dumping fuel into the carb when the bike was set up straight.

So, #1..why is this extra jet here? And #2 why would it be freely dumping fuel?

Can't answer on your extra jet, but your float is sticking, so it's not shutting off the fuel.
I had this happen once, I just dropped the float bowl and flushed it. It only takes a small piece of grit to bind it.
After that I always turn off the petcock. Once was enough.

Don't know what those extra fittings are but here is what mine looks like...

As mentioned flush out the float bowl. When my 80 ironhead did that, it was my needle and seat.

Looks like a ThunderJet. Probably needs the fuel line running from it to the fitting in the bowl.

Yup
all answers are correct.
The thunder jet is to take care of a lean spot up in the RPM scale

That is a Thunderjet.
My bored/stroked ‘76 is running the same setup.
Replace the missing fuel line.

I thought it was for more of the mid range, and was designed to smooth the transition from intermediate to main jets.

Petcock should be off when the bike isn’t in use. I wonder how much fuel is in the crankcase.
