Tim, welcome to the forum.
How high is the engine number? Is it below 60000 or above it? Can you post a partial photo please. Thanks.
What is the first portion of the left crankcase production number? Is it 178? Code number 1 indicates 1200cc.
Or is it 1478? Code number 14 indicates 1340cc.

Left crankcase production number may be underneath and near the front. As an example, here is 178 0++ 1++. First 1 is a code number and in this instance it indicates 1200cc (74ci) Shovel.
If the code number was 14, as in 1478, then it would indicate 1340cc (80ci) Shovel.
BTW, your 7 may or may not be the same style as the 7 in my picture. Apparently H-D used at least two types of 7 when stamping 1978 model crankcase production numbers.
R-H crankcase production number is stamped inside the gear compartment and obviously not visible when the engine is assembled.
Do you know if the case halves are original to each other?
