Muffler rankings
I'm about ready to do the exhaust on my 76 FLH. It came with the 2-1 with the rocketship muffler. Not really digging that look. Now that swapmeet season is coming, I am hoping to replace the muffler. What stock muffler is the best performer? Which is loudest? Which is quietest? Aside from the rocketship, I see the "cigar", the 70s model with the lines near the tip and, finally, the side exit. I like any of these better than what I have, although, the cigar is probably my preference. What can you tell me?

In the absence of any response and FWIW, I've heard the 70s model muffs and they are quiet. Because I prefer my bike to look stock, picked up a reproduction set that is correct for my bike and drilled/punched out the center caps in the muffs (you can check my thread to see what the inside of the muffs look like before and after). I did this because I have a 96 stroker and wanted more air flow and sound. Haven't heard how it sounds yet since I am waiting for my OEM crossover. Will be posting a sound clip on my thread when I am done. If I had a stock bike, I would have left the muffs stock.
I presume all stock muffs perform well on stock bikes.....sound varies and is subjective.
Is your bike stock? Pics are good.

Went through some of my HD Accessory Catalogs and the 1974 catalog provides what I think you are asking about.
Re: "G" & "H". these are also referred in my 65 catalog as 'quiet" and "extra quiet". It also states that the "extra quiet" mufflers are nbot recommended for single exhaust systems (I am assuming that because they are more restrictive). I have an OEM set I intend to run on my 65 FLH. And I believe the rocket ship fin type were only used up to 1966 models.

Yeah Panz, but you were probably happy to pay it after waiting in line for an hour or more. I had a '70 Dodge Power Wagon in those years and it had a 23 gallon main tank and two 18 gallon saddle tanks. Any time I passed a station with a short line I'd pull in and top off. It was a rolling fuel tank. Now we're the world's leading oil producer. Who would have thought?
