looking on the bright side with the inner primary off, you will be able to replace the crank seal ,the transmission seal, the bearing plus seal transmission sprocket if it needs it,check all your oil pipes, check the condition of the wiring between the oil tank and the frame. Then you get leak free, hassel free riding !!

No HF puller needed
Hi SoCal: Luckily for me, once I realized the shaft extension isn't bolted on or anything, I wiggled it a bit and it slid right off.
I just went through the same process yesterday. That shaft extension for the compensating sprocket is supposed to slide off, but mine wouldn't budge. I used heat, tried to pry it off, but it wasn't moving. I found a 6 year old thread on this forum where a feller used a Harbor Freight bearing separator/puller, $40 with a 20% off coupon. 5 minutes after I got home that extension was sitting on the bench.

johnjzjz: You said: "they never relieved the hole locations ( you cant ) but the bolts in the alt drum with the spud on".
By "spud" do you mean the shaft extension? If so, I realized it wasn't bolted on and just popped it off yesterday. However, I'm not sure what you mean by "relieving" holes.
It looks to me, once I get the inner primary cover off, I'll be able to remove stator rotor/cover by screwing in a couple bolts and pulling, per Geezy's suggestion. Is that correct?

Geezey: This may be blasphemy, but I can't help but notice that HD could have ever-so-slightly enlarged the front portion of the inner primary cover to make it possible to remove rotor with inner still in place and change the seal without removing darn near everything on the bike except the horn. This is turning in to one of those projects that requires four hours of taking stuff off to spend 5 minutes replacing a seal. Groan...

They figured that out on the later models.
