crank pin going bad - usually when this is going on the noise is at 35 to 40 MPH and it happens when you back the throttle off just slightly -- and the engine unloads and free wheels the motor at that speed >>>> you get a rattling in the engine at that 35 or 40 speed - wont do it at a light wont do it unless you doing what I wrote above

yes a crank pin can be another noise but yours in something your not catching - like putting on each of the pushrod tubes and feeling something hitting something

or at no load on the pushrod and valve you can pull the top of the push rod back and forth and hear it clicking

14 people make one soup will get everyone to throw up when they taste it

may have found the problem....

just pulled it apart again for the 3rd time

i was checking ring end gap and top ring was at 0.010 on the new pistons and jugs

and checked the old ones that was at 0.023

havent gotten to the other rings yet but im assuming once they got hot they were closing up even more and may be the problem oiling wise and was getting that sound at hot temps

little bit of scoring but just barely noticeable nothing i can feel with my nail

does this sound more like the problem they were getting starved of oil and getting loud? and should i get new rings or file these ones to spec and run with it?

Wont be the noise.... but if you have them out and not gapped rite. Get it rehoned and replace rings.... have the taper checked. Get the pistons fitted to barrels/ jugs. ( correctly )Think you have more than one problem. Might be time to have and engine builder looking at it completely..... be cheaper than guessing

was looking at a few things tugged, twisted and pushed and pulled on connecting rods to feel any abnormal play....

got a measurement on endplay gap between the con rod and flywheel and it was 0.27

took some pics and maybe a dumb question but ill ask is there supposed to be that much gap between the con rod wrist pin and the inside of the piston?

it will center its self once in the bore - you cant really even measure the spot it goes - but when over haul comes along the pin wear will tell the story - as to the location and its always sort of in the middle
