Front base cometic gasket issue

I purchased a complete top end cosmetic gasket kit but the front base gasket covers what appears to be an oil passage. Not sure if this is a universal gasket and all I need to do is drill out the pre-stamped circle or just leave it alone and install it. i was assured that this was the correct set for my application by JP Cycles reps.

its a 77 FLH case, 78 jugs 80"

Here is what was recommended:
Hi John,
I finished installing the new moly rings you suggested and the fit was perfect. I opened up a new box of cosmetic gaskets but the front gasket looks like it will block an oil passage. I have no clue if this should be drilled out or if it should just stay and cover the hole. Any advise would be appreciated.

Do you have have your old one handy?

Mydadsride 04-15-2020 07:26 PM

unfortunately no

I think the manual calls for a crankcase plug in that location.

Is that the hole on the other side of the gasket?

Mydadsride 04-15-2020 08:20 PM

No. That hole doesn't line up with anything.

OK the scoop - the base gaskets are made on the first and second edition gaskets - in the pan head that blanked hole is open - as the engine is a top oiler through the jugs front and rear

in a shovel app its a external oiler - that hole in the block is plugged and not used and its only in the front - the rear does not have the hole - you also may find that the lifter block in some engines hits the lifter block the extended tab after the jug is in place and tight we tap it over against the block - they were being cheap and made one dye for stamping and omit the hole on shovels

THank you John.
You've been so much help to me so far and I appreciate it.

Do I actually need to plug that with #653 or will the gasket be good enough?
