Good morning everyone,
my FLH has the guard mounted grab rail & it’s continually breaking at the rear RHS weld as per the picture, I’m on my 3rd grab rail & it’s annoying.

I feel it’s due to vibration but it’s not that bad, any thoughts on why they keep breaking in the same spot & possible remedies?

I'm tempted to cut the actual bracket off from the grab rail & just use that as the mount.

 

stressed when fitted? everything has to sit nice and flush before tightening up any fasteners

 

The thought crossed my mind, its all sitting flush & I haven’t done the bolts up tight it’s the 3rd one in as many years & all 3 broken in the same spot, it’s a bit odd.

I’m going to get one welded up & see what transpires.

 

try putting faucet/tap washers between penny/repair washers between the grab rail mount and the frame,
they should take any vibrations that cause the stress fractures
worth a try anyway...

 

That’s a good idea will give it a whirl.
