Default FLH gearing

There is a lot of info out there on this forum and others so i thought i would post my limited experience.
bike is an 82 flh, stock, cept for the S&S super E.
Originally the set up was OEM 22 transmission 51 rear wheel. As was stated before on here, the bike is buzzy with this ratio and the motor seems like its always trying hard as well as stuff cracks..... most, if not all my miles are done out in the countryside. So i've replaced the 51 rear for a 49 sprocket. With this set up the motor seems so much more relaxed and a lot smoother and less vibes at 65mph and still has plenty left in it for overtaking etc .....just seems to be a better choice for me.......just my 0.02c worth

23/47 or 46 if you can find one, moves the hard buzz range up about 300-350 rpm. Does help settle her down a bit.

Old Mago, not trying to steal your thread, but since you guys are on the subject I have a question maybe one of you could answer. I have a 75 FLH completely stock gearing with a 1200 Motor except for the S&S Super E Carb, Would a 1200 motor be enough power if I switched to a 23/47 or 23/46?

Ran those combo's on mine as a stock 74" just moves your shift timing around a little.

Problem I ran into most often was out of stock. Shipping might be tough but you might want to hit BMI Karts website and check out the vintage section, can find screaming deals on odd stuff for the old bikes, new old stock like Dixie and Superior goodies, RPLS rod sets as low as $39 us, gaskets, all kinds of stuff.
