Potential Value of my Old Man's Harley

Hey I'm new here and hoping someone could help me out. I don't have a tremendous amount of knowledge on this bike other than it was my late father's pride and joy. He said it was a '77 Shovelhead in an '81 frame. I know it's had some aftermarket work done, namely an electric starter (the bike was kick-start only when he first got it). It is currently not running. I am looking to gauge its value, as a unit or parted out. Any insight would be helpful. TIA

Does it have a proper title?

Yes I have a title. It's a CA title in my Dad's name, but it's clean; no liens etc

If someone offered me $1500 or even $1000 I'd jump on it, I assume you don't have the skill or inclination to get it running.

Put it up on Ebay or Bring a trailer. One dollar, no reserve. That'll tell you for sure what it's worth. I've sold many bikes that way and haven't been disappointed. That's where you'll probably get the best $ for it, but you'll have to share it with the platform. Take really good pictures. Or, put it on FB marketplace or Craigslist and let the locals beat you up on the price, whatever you decide that might be. Doesn't matter what it is. They'll beat you up anyway.

I wouldn't let it go for less than $3,000. Shovelhead motors alone are bringing over $2,000.

Agree with the above statement

I think $3k is probably fair so long as the tank is clean and usable.

I would detail the sh!t out of it, and at least try some simple things to see if it'll run, quick carbeurator cleaning, fresh gas, plugs, battery. Then put it on ebay, it'd be a lot cooler sale if it was running!

Was tour dad a vet? If so, find an American Legion post and see if they have a Legion Riders group. They usually have someone mechanically knowledgeable and may be able to get the ride running. Then advertise it for $5000 as a running shovelhead and negotiate down to $4000.
