Default 1981 FXB Sturgis

Anybody know where I can find the original parts list for this bike. I am looking for specifics like the stock pipes and handle bars. It has drag bars which I think are original. It has the original wheels with the orange stripes. I am thinking that the original pipes were a two into one. Can anyone confirm that for me? It currently has a chrome air breather but I have the original Black which is going back on. I am trying to put this bike back to the original stock condition but I am unsure of these items handle bars and pipes. Any help would be great.

don't know about original unless you surf ebay. www.jpcycles.com has some decent replica stuff and its an american company. when I rebuilt my wifes 79 FXS I bought an original sales brochure on ebay, then I looked at the picture and went from there. good luck

Thanks. I have the service manual but it is for the entire 1981 line up not just the FXB. The picture you posted looks juat like mine except for the pipes mine has 2 with a black crossover and down turned mufflers. I did see a picture of the 1980 and it had 2 into 1. Just hard to know after 26 years I guess. Just wanted it to be original all the way know what I mean.

I've got the original 81 sales brouchure (all in color). I can't remember if the Sturgis is in there. I'll be home in about 4 hrs from work and I'll check it out and contact you. Hopefully. it's in there. My 81 FXWG is in there in all its blazing color (flamed tank)

I am not sure on an 81, but I think there were 2 pipes and a cross over with a black heat sheild.

Your best bet is to write to Harley Davidson restoration department. When I did, they sent a

list of vendors that sold stock type parts for older Harleys. They also sent a lot of information

on my bike. They have no phone or email. Make sure you send your vehichle number. Your

best bet for parts at a reasonable price is eBay. You will have to be patient. Certain parts are

big in Japan. I just saw a 1980 Wide Glide sissy bar bag go for over $300.00 If you want any

of the vendors they sent me. Let me know and I will send you a copy, I have 4 or 5 pages of them.

I would like to see some B4 pictures.

good luck with your restoration.

Bighearn....you are in luck !! I have an original sales brochure that has (in color) the 91 Sturgis !!!!! The only thing is ..the bike is spread out between 2 pages. The pages are about 8 x11 inches each. Of course, on the back of one of the pages is part of my 81 FXWG, so, I can't sent it to you. If you want, I can get the pages copied in color (I'd bring it to a commercial printer for a good job) and send them to you. Part of the other page has a really neat history of how it came about. Did you know it even came with an accessory secondary belt that could be installed in 15 min, and was good for about 200 miles.
Another page which I can copy has the stats on the sturgis eg: oil cap, gear ratios, front and rear brake area, braking distance and lots more. Do you want me to copy this for you?
The bike did come with drag style bars on 3 1/2 risers and the pipes are shown as 2 into 2. From what I can see, they aren't tapered though...just straight. They are called 'staggered shorty duals.

Let me know if I can help

I did the google thing every one looks different after 26 years they tend to get a few aftermarket parts thrown on them. Couldnt find any original ad pics or anything. Anyway here's the bike tell me what you guys think of her. 12,000 original miles.

Big: Like you, I have the HD 1978 1/2 to 1983 manual. You might want to try to start out with FXSB, rather than FXB in your google search. From my picture in the manual the turndown mufflers are not original, nor and the original FXSB had buckhorn handlebars, but like you said that was a range in years. The manual also shows both the FXWG and yours not to have the tank logo??? But, as far as rims, header pipes, seat, sissybar, etc., they appear to be originals...

Good luck
