Default RE: High Torque-starter install for the ShovelHead

What year is your bike Jeff?
It's an early '84 FLH
in V twin 2 piece heat shield set for 1970 --84 flh vt no. 30-0292 no image in the site but in the 2007 catalog page 637 theres a picture........
.......They produce 2 sets of shield that I know of, so have the length measurement of that area of the pipe handy before you call.
Ok, I have V-twin's 2008 catalog and I did just nowfind that part # and a pic of them. Ihadn't seenthembefore in there.I'd been looking at p.614 where they havejust the shields listed, but those(that set) arenot in that group.

Iwillmeasure mine just incase and make sure I order the correct ones, but thatset (30-0292)does looklikethey're theright ones.

Thanks Man!!

Jeff

that battery ISNT needed --- http://www.ebay.com/itm/DRAG-SPECIAL...7b3287&vxp=mtr -- this one lasted me for 4 years and even in super cold weather it never fails to spin over ---

accell stuff is PURE JUNK!!!

the housing on the starter needs to be clearanced for an easier fit - you WILL pull it apart if you ever try to remove it after its been in the bike -- not much just where you can pull it apart with ease -- you have to add electrical grease to the "O" rings and grease to the starter gear --

the relay like that ISNT needed its way to big --- http://www.ebay.com/itm/STARTER-RELA...61ecbf&vxp=mtr -- much easier to install and super small --

i use the battery cables you get from autozone -- they are 100% copper -- bend the ends to a 90 degree --

racing solenoid?? lol whatever-- anyways -- a regular solenoid works fine -- just stay away from the accell ones -- the regular "on the handle bars" starter button is the best -- those "im a cool biker" items are junk -- custom stuff like that looks cool till you find yourself in a situation like on a hill and the bike kills and you have to #1 hold the clutch in -- # hold the front brake #3 try to make that custom junk work before you fall over--- lol lol even the old trick of the bent hacksaw blade on the solenoid is a dumb idea -- i take more of those "ideas" off and revert back to what works -- the button on the handle bars --
