Default RE: shovel 4 speed

HEY !!!!! thank you guys a bundle !!!!! and I truely mean that ........

the info you have shared with me is just FAN TAS TIC !

I wish to thank you all, i was going to get started right away, and get some pics posted, but seems my wifes car 95 monte carlo 3.1 engine, started making some ticking sounds, with an occasional(miss-sp?) growling metallic thumping, oil light not on , oil level full ,( metal shavings in oil ) yet runs fairly smooth???? I suspect timing chain is worn and rubbing?( 246,000 miles )
I know this has nothing to do with this forum..... for you guys...... but for me , this is my wifes baby !~ and till it's fixed , there will be NO RIDING, and I mean that by that just isn't my bike i'm talkin' bout, if ya know what i mean?????
so thank you all again AND i'll be back ASAP any help or ideas with the v6 chevy "evo" engine, would be great !
John

Default 1985 flhp deluxe shovel head

hi i just purchased a 1985 flhp deluxe with matching numbers. it was purchased by a ford dealer in 1985 in utica ny . then was purchase by a gentleman in 1987 , was kept by him until last year when he passed away .it was purchase from the gentleman i got it off of at auction 6 months ago . last time it was registered was 2009 i have all paper work for the sale of all party's .the bike has 24000 miles on it and has been painted red from the original white . from what i have read they they made 335 of these in 1985 and only 24 were sold to private citizens. i purchased this on 4/6/2018 just got it up on lift to drain old gas and oil .and a new batt .so was wondering if any one knew were i could find out more on the awesome bike

You should have a Hitachi starter and the Drive is indeed shovel..4 speed... only difference is the "path" for the belt is Wider... so that inner primary is "different" .
BTW I cannot imagine anyone switching out the oh so elegant 3.5 gal Tanks on the FXS to big ole Fat bobs... hope that is Not how it went...
I also am one who thought the '85 and '86 4-speeds were EVO's so... Maybe IDK Much??

Edit; On the Tanks... seems the late 4-speeds have got flat side tanks... Don't know 3.5 gal or 5??

The only reasons the Shovel Head was in '85 was leftovers from Police contracts written up 2yrs before and H-D had to comply with a contract
The lucky people got left overs
But then the Evos are great engines also
