My book shows they still had 74's in 1980 (FLH only) and FXEF ("Fat Bob") was 80" in 1980 but FXEF in '79 could have both engines. Same with the Lowriders for 79. Nice Scooter though either way!

Yeah KBB makes mistakes, they don't show my 78- 80" FLH

The first 2 digits in the VIN are 9D... The last two are J0. I think that means FXE 1980.

Hey guys, I appreciate everyones' replies. Please keep 'em coming. I feel sure I have a 1980 FXE with a 74" Shovel. I've been taking it apart bit by bit to get it back to its old self. I could barely get the bike to roll. Put it on the life and discovered the front brake calipers were binding. Took em apart, cleaned em up, and not she works great. Been trying to take some pics as I go. Here are a few. Still have not started the engine...

Fixing shovel querks is a well worn and known path in here post whatever we'll have the answers and welcome to the dinosaur club

From the pics looks like the the upper end has been off paint & gasket type gives that away but I'm not seeing anything indicating the normal trouble spots bike looks clean , nice buy .

I'm sure most have seen this site (http://www.harleyhelp.com/vin.html). If you scroll down to the 1970 to 1980 you'll see that "9D" is an FXE. And the letter "J" means "1980 only" and the "0" means either 1970 or 1080. Since my VIN ends in "J" it's 1980. My VIN also begins with "9D." Harley didn't make a 1340 FXE in 1980 so my bike MUST be a 1200. Am I missing something?
