Default HI new 79 FXS Here

HI all,
I've been lurking for a while. I just bought a barn fresh 79 fxs. Mostly stock except for delkron cases , S&S dual plug heads. It kicks over nicely and runs strong. It does not start with the elec. start? So where is the best place to start. I figure simple first wire connections etc, then relay then ??

Thx,
Pat

I'd start by getting a manual, some things are avil to download at shovelhead dot us. A wire diagram will help to track cranking issues. Get it to fire up and go from there one thing at a time.

Thx,

The bike is belt primary closed (vented), and i managed to start it via the electric start by shorting out the relay , so prob just a bad switch at the bars. I degreased and power washed it. i'm very happy it runs strong great compression (no numbers yet) and the electric work. So on the the clean up!

Thanks,
Pat

Shorted the relay by jumping the 2 larg terminals with a screw driver and it started right up.

Ign on you should have 12 V going to the starter button push in the starter button the 12V should travel to the starter relay You should hear a click at the relay when you push in the starter button If there is a rocker switch (off/on ) next to the start button make sure this is working to send the 12V to the starter button Good luck
