Default Stator Question on my Shovelhead

I have broke down and decided to install an upgraded charging system on my '79 FLH. I went with a completely different 3 wire (phase) system with new magnet cover. I have assembled the inner primary and fwd primary chain gear which sandwiches the magnet. I tightened the retaining bolt and I have spring tension freeplay. This is my 1st HD and not that it seems wrong as it pushes back with decent force, I dont know if this is normal or not as I dont recall it being like that when I disassembled it. Any insight from the shovel gurus would be appreciated....Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure as I dont know these bikes that well. It does feel like spring tension and not the force of the magnets. Any insight would be helpful, thanks for the responces thus far.
