Default 84 clutch help

I am in bad need of some help, I have a 1984 Super Glide (late 84) that I have been trying to find a clutch hub for. I bought a complete clutch assembly from an online used Harley parts store and they told me it came off of a 1985 softail and assured me that it would fit on my bike. Well I put it on yesterday and just my luck it did not fit so I did a little research and found out that there two different hubs that over lap one for 84 early 85 and another for early 85 to 89. The only difference is the offset of the ring gear. The ring gear on the 84 early 85 is about 3/8" farther inboard than the early 85 to 89. So I am now again in search of a clutch hub any help would be greatly appreciated. Also I was wondering if it would be possible to just replace the starter shaft with a longer one that would let the starter gear come out far enough to engage the ring gear.

Thanks for any help

K...If I am reading you correctly you have the diaphragm clutch on your Superglide. The part number for the clutch shell and sprocket is #37702-84, The later style one you are referring to is used on 85-89 Softail models as well as late 1984 FXWG/FXSB models and is #37707-84

www.nosparts.com carries the one for your bike (37702-84).

And as far as subbing out one starter shaft for another i will let someone with greater knowledge than I provide an answer.

Yea that looks right but I am having a hard time getting the specs on that part number. I will have to do a little research.
