"Electronic" ignition switch

Need to replace my ignition on my 81. Can somebody tell me what is "electronic" about a electronic switch and should I bother or just go with mechanical.

No difference in how they work internally , the mount & the terminals are different instead on the normal little 5 screw mounts there 3 spade terminals and they use the round key instead of the old flat style

They make the "electronic" version that the catalogs sell that is a direct replacement for the mechanical. It is easier to turn than the mechanical, and has a much better "feel". They do not hold up as well to the elements...if you ride in the rain a lot expect to replace it in a couple of years.
