Default How do you identify an Andrews cam?

I pulled the cam out of my 76 shovel today. It measures .450 lift, but the only number on it is 1843 (I think) stamped on the back of the gear. Andrews web site doesn't reference anything with this number, either as a part number or timing. Anyone recognize it?

Edited to add that i went back over to the shop after taking a break, and found the grind stamped on the inner end of the shaft. It's an A grind. Sorry about that.

Thanks for posting. I needed to figure out which andrews' cam I had. Saw the Andrews engraving on the external side of the gear but was going back and forth on pulling the cam. I'm headed back out to the garage.

the A cam is no longer available and it was a solid only cam not bad for its time but better grinds are available like the A 2 - and another old one that still does the job the J cam both are solid or hyd

both are on power in the normal driving range and idle is un affected

I have a Andrews B cam in my 80" shovel. Dialed in, runs good, valve overlap makes it an easy kicker. Good street manners with great mid-range/high RPM.

Literally must be Millions of "B"'s out there... I don't mind them... coupled with compression... but, at low compression I much prefer the #1... personally.
BTW I would Trade a Good, Early model, "B" for a number one!!

Thanks for your feedback. I’ve got another post going on trying to make my shovel a bit easier to start and not kick back on me. I appreciate your comments about the Andrews B. These lobes sure look aggressive to me, but I have zero experience with moto cams.

the lobe type on a camshaft is only proportional in size to the rocker ratio

the lower the ratio as in a shovel 1.43 to 1 the cam lobe needs to be larger to get the same affect as an evo cam that has a ratio of 1.626 as those lobes are way smaller in size

in practice - a cam lobe that measures with a dial gague - .350 X 1.43 has a lift of .497 the same lobe lift .350 X 1.625 has a lift of .56875

what you see as aggressive is the duration but the lifter rollers are different sizes small on the shovel and large rollers on the evo lifters its all in the mechanics of it
