The reason they say they will not fit an 82, is the shift linkage on some of the rotary top 4 speeds is in the way...they can be made to fit with the correct parts...but rotary top parts are hard to find, and the aftermarket really doesn't support that trans. If I was building a custom bike, I would use that trans for a doorstop...the aftermarket does support the ratchet top 4 speed...then any of the belt kits will bolt right up with no issues. They also bolt up to 5 in 4 and 6 in 4 speed case transmissions...both can be had with a kicker. I think the best bang for your buck, is the Rivera Primo Shovelhead conversion kit...belt drive, six speed trans, modern spined shaft clutch, late model starter, all of which will come in handy if you ever modify the motor to make HP. It doesn't come with a kicker, but I would think a 5 speed kicker would bolt up...contact primo to make sure.

Find an older ratchet top , those maytags sucked ***** on a good day the linkage was garbage from the factory . Like Tom said damn little support or parts for them .
