lowering the front of a 1974 FLH which front springs?
Im trying to locate some lowing springs for the front of a 1974 FLH , now i went to jp cycle web site coz i like how you can you use the fitment drop down tab of a part your looking at and it will also show other models that the part will fit.
Now i found the direct replacement part# for new standard front springs from progressive #11-1131 , but there isnt any lowered spring part number ,so what i did is i looked to see what other model FLH uses the same #11-1131 and found the 1982 FLH uses the same #11-1131 from spring but in addition to the stardard springs they have the lowering spring kits #10-1561 for the 1982 FLH , when i cross refrence this number to my 1974 its says " THIS PART WILL NOT FIT YOUR 1974 FLH" but yet both use the stock replacment spring ? anyone got an idea on what i can use to lower the front of my bike? |
From what I can find, OEM springs for 1949-E77 is 46051-49a FL & FLH.
For L1977-84 the OEM is 45837-77. Not sure what the difference is. I'd call Progressive and ask. |
a 74 FLH is almost on the ground already are you sure some one has not put 2 over tubes on the forks ?????? its very common we did many back in the day -- but the cheap way is to cut the spring 1 inch at a time but it will drag the floor boards on a bump going straight - jz

maybe he needs a honda shadow if theres a need to lower it .. lol

You do that, you are going to hate it. It takes a marginal ride and makes it worse. But what the hell do we know. We've never done that have we, guys?

I lowered it by cutting the springs 1 inch still not low enuff

Yep ... A lot of 'em had 2" over stock installed ( my 79 FXEF still does .. Forks by Frank ) It gave it just enough of a different look without mucking things up too bad .. Just like "TwiZted" and "johnjzjz" have stated ... Suspension travel was pretty limited "back in the day" ... I wouldn't shorten it if it was mine ... Just my .02 cents worth!
