Rear lungs rockerbox spitting out a bit of oil....looks like the classic paper gasket type are in there (just got the bike last weekend). Read a lot to get newer gasket types...the silicon wafer style. What's a good brand to get? I see James Gaskets with the silicon bead...'bout 40 bucks for a set.

Whatever gasket you get, they shouldn't be any thicker than the paper gaskets. It'll change the geometry of your rockers, how it rides on top of the valve. If you do go with the paper gaskets, give them a THIN coat of bearing grease. Don't goop it on. Just a thin coat and torque to factory spec's.
WARNING: Pulling the heads to do this job will cause you to start thinking about valve jobs, dual plugs, compression releases, new rings and all kind of cool stuff to do. Keep your mind on the task at hand!

James are good as are Cometic (my preference). Both are expensive but in this case you get whar you pay for.

Don't scare the guy, there's no need to pull the heads.

we use the cometic tin with the crush bubble - they say nothing should be put on them but we spray them with hylomar blue just to be sure and as of this date we have not seen one seap anything and its been a couple of years -- its what we do in my shop - i have no way of knowing how straight the rocker boxes are or how many chunks have beed gouged out from an animal with a screwdriver and we see those as well, so machine them straight first if they are all chunked up / or worped its what we do --

Now the james gaskets have been good to us most times they are more forgiving to a nice head and rocker box the early ones that are still being sold on e blows are paper with a red something the later version is a tin unit with a red something on it more available than any of the others - jz

We are talking shovels here, not Evo's. Unless you have a custom frame, you have to pull the heads to get the rocker boxes off. Or you can saw the frame.........
