My 79 shovel hard tail is in the shop right now and I need to know what the overall length of the bike is cause I'm buying a truck and need to know what size box it'll fit in, 6.5' or 8'??

Bike has no stretch in the frame. Would it fit on a 6.5' box on an angle?

If my bike was in my hands obviously I wouldn't be asking but I'm looking to get a truck this weekend.

Any help from people who have transported their choppers is appreciated.

in a 6 foot bed it will be sitting at or near the end of the tail gate

most times we have to leave the gate open even in a 8 foot bed < the tire is sticking in the way to close it - johnjzjz

 

In my opinion anything less than a 8 foot bed is a lesson in frustration. Try loading whole sheets of plywood in a 6 foot bed or 8 foot 2x4's. If you are buying a truck, get a truck. You will appreciate the long bed.

 

Stock '79 length was 7.5-8 feet for FX-FL models. Think a long bed would probably serve you better.
