Compensating sprocket

Have a 1979 FLH 1340 CC shovel head. Have to change the primary chain. Can it be done without removing the compensating sprocket? If not is the compensating sprocket nut right or left handed thread. Thanks for any info.

Not that tough to do. You need to get a manual.

1 - 1/2 inch socket and an impact is needed - if not to remove to install

if impact does not work (like in my case a few times) you need to lock the primary and use a LONG breaker bar... like 4ft long

Is the nut right or left hand thread?

As mentioned... Normal right hand thread

And yes, I had to hook a strap from the frame to my truck to stop from flipping it off the lift. 4 ft bar and a heat gun to melt the old loctite.
