another oil question: automotive oil
 

I have used Valvoline VR1 racing automotive mineral oil for a while in various bikes...
50w and 60w... one of the reasons is because i t can be fount at Autozone fairly easy if I am around...
Do you all motorcycle specific monograde oil?
Any comment or experience (goor or bad) using automotive oil?

you can buy lucas cheaper on line 50 / 60W

do not use car oil it does have ( Zinc ) and your bike needs it

Diesel oil is also good to use it is multi grade - 15 / 40 non syn dyno oil

i have used it and add 1/2 quart of lucas oil additive with an oil change

The Valvoline VR1 does have Zinc (0.14 of whatever that value is :S) ... maybe not enough though? Lucas oil has 1,058 PPM of Zinc
I guess the Lucas additive you refere to is Engine Break-In Oil Additive

Some oils are very misleading about their zinc content. Any oil that meets API SL/SM specs can not have much as it damages catalytic converters...any oil that has very much zinc will be labeled "for off-road use only"

Any thoughts on what to add to the oil to remove water?
Not just from condensation. lid was off & rain water got into the oil tank. Not knowing this the bike was ran a short period maybe 15 minutes to heat up the engine before the first oil change.
It was nasty, I removed the oil tank & all hoses & filter and cleaned them, changed the oil 6 times so far.
It looks pretty good now. I added Marvel "Mystery" oil to it the last change & it no longer looks like a mocha latte.
Any suggestions?

drain it and change it after riding is like a human being for 20 min at least twice do that

Here's another do it yourself oil tip.

I change my oil on the jiffy stand, like the manual says. But I noticed if I let it drain completely from all three holes, and then get on the bike and hold it straight up, and then put it back on the side stand, a crap load more fluid comes out of the transmission and the engine.

I also noticed if I get on the bike again and keep going back and forth from straight up and down to the jiffy stand, then straight up again and to the jiffy stand again, I can get more and more oil to flow out. And I don't mean a little, I mean a lot more oil.

we do all changes on a bike lift and its heads up - you read that incorrect - checking the engine hot on the k stand is what they were referring to - but i only have been told that as late bike have to park behind the garage if they stop by as they block eye site with the chrome that make them more valuable - so i am told
