i used tinfoil sheet screwed up in a ball then put some metal polish on it or just water and rub it on the part i needed to shine up.

its sturdy enough not to fold around the edges and ruin the paint on the fins.

by the way. tinfoil works a treat on spots of rust on chrome or steel.

I use a product called Cavi wipes, it is a disinfectant wipe found in hospitals... i got a case of them from a buddy a while back and they work awesome for wrinke, texture, and other powder plus doe a great job to shine up the fins... would have never thought but been doing it for 2/3 years now and still look like new

"actually I like to know what cost this oxidation happened?"

Moisture.

I deal with it almost every friggin day in Florida. Had the same thing happen to the edges on my previous fatboy.

Only use H-D engine cleaner or you will void your warranty. Dealership are videotaping people in their driveway with the use of drones.

I use some 3M medium sanding sponges and some dish soap water, or other lubricant cleaner, then finish off with some 3M Fine sanding sponges.

Something like this...it will keep your work area to the outer edges of the fins, and not the black part of the engine. It's a nice hard flat surface tool to work with...also you can cut it into smaller pieces for those hard to reach areas ...something like this...

Amazon Amazon

I did a test spot and it works great. I'll post some pictures before and after I get it all done. It's a project for a later date.

I tried the drywall sponge and it too works well. I've tried wet sanding paper wrapped around a paint stirring stick (pain in the butt but works). The tool you use should have a flat hard edge, something like a scotch brite pad or steel wool will wrap around the edges of the fins and take off or scuff some of the black engine paint.

Anyone tried Neverdull ? It has cleaned some bad oxidized spots for me in the past.
