Having bought a bike last spring and needing a helmet, I just picked up a Harley-branded HJC modular from the dealership. I thing it was about $250. Eight months later, having decided that I kinda like this "motorcicle stuff", I thought about a newer, better quieter helmet. Short story, internet ordered a Shoei Neotech for a little more than twice the price of the original. No better fitting, no quieter, and perhaps a half pounder lighter. (1) Just because it's cheaper doesn't make it not just as good. (2) If you have no way to try before you buy, you're pretty much hosed...

Not differing with anyone's experiences: I've had great experiences buying our helmets online from Revzilla. Super easy company to work with. Great selection and some premium brands.

The Gringo is a great helmet except for the lack of a flip up face shield. I been using this one for a few years now.

You may want to look into the Gringo S. It has the shield.

If you like the looks of the Gringo, run a Bell Bullitt. Similar styling and a flip up face shield. My wife and I both run them set up with Sena. For a half helmet I use an Akouri.
