1996 XL883 Before.
Drop out engine, clean frame and polish engine and covers. Added Big gulp and round aircleaner.
Strip tank inside and out, Por 10 inside, painted outside Bronson Red, added all seeing eye decal, clear coat.
Changed front fender to chrome
Removed rear fender, cut and filled, sanded, painted Bronson red and clear coated. Added Triumph taillight and license plate holder.
Added drag pipes, cut to fit and used Paughco 610 mufflers for best look and sound
Found stock seat on craiglist.
Removed 19" front wheel, found and laced 21" wheel and installed with new tire.
Bought 60 vintage instrument panel and cups, ground out panel to fit newer electronic speedo. Found tach at swap meet and installed. Bottom light neutral, top light oil.
Bought new headlight, drilled and mounted. Moved front blinkers to forks. Worked to remove or hide all birdsnest of wires from inside stock headlight. Added boots on forks.
Added new handlebars, grips as needed.
Sold forwards (nice ones) on ebay and bought crappy ones on ebay, but made right with spit and polish.
Changed oil tank and battery cover, belt guard to chrome.
Added sissy bar and longer jiffy stand.
Found army style (OD) bags after several versions. One for handlebars, one for siisybar and pillion. Lined both with foam cut from camping pad to retain shape, bungeed and handle hooked on.
Changed jets, it runs wonderfully. Not cold blooded, choke out to start, get helmet gloves on, choke in and it ready to play hard. Plugs look great after 25,000 miles. Gets 55 mpg which is great for a 2.5 gallon gas tank. A real pleasure to ride up to about 75 mph. Quicker than my Bonneville and handles the canyons nearly as well. Great and forgiven torque curve, but likes to be above 3000 for hard core play.
Probably other stuff, but that covers the major changes.
I ride the hell out of it. People are always asking me what kind of bike is it.

New front turn signals in black

1st week taking her to work, didn't waste any time in throwing the saddlebags on. Inverted the mirrors around this time too.
How she sits now, I still use the saddlebags from time to time.
I've only made a few small mods outside of the obvious.
- Paul Yaffe Monkey Bars, 14" i think...
- Biltwell Thruster Grips
- Road Glide shocks (air ride), lines ran under seat
- Wolo Loud One Horn
- FuelPak3
- No name forkbag
- No name saddlebags
- Home-made sissybar + bracket
- Powder coated derby cover, matte black
- LED Tail light and turn signal bulbs
Free mods (or cheap)
- Pulled all the reflectors off
- Inverted mirrors
- home-made tail cover for sissy bar
