Default How many motorcycles have you had?

Just curious, how many cycles have you owned/still own and why did you keep/get rid of them?

Me first,

1st bike - 1978 Kawasaki KZ200 - quit riding when I got pregnant, then life happened and sold it.
2nd bike - 2014 Harley Davidson 883 Iron - only put 445 miles on it in almost 3 years - too heavy/bulky, hard to handle. Traded for new ride.
3rd bike - 2017 Harley Davidson Street XG750 - just got it this week and I plan to ride til I can't ride anymore. It fits perfectly for me. Now, if only the weather would cooperate more...

It looks like 17 bikes. Red Italicized are current riders.
47 FL - First bike, at 15. Got it because my best friend found a 50 Pan.
61 XLH - 16th summer, this a gift from the gods for a 16 year old
42 ServiCar - The beach party beer carrier. Great at getting through the soft sand.
66 Hodaka 100 ACE - It is a wonder I am still alive, but the bike never failed.
61 R60/2 - BMW - Grace, like my XK-120 Jag.
72 XLCH - Kickstart only, football knee injuries forced sale for electric start
79 SP370 - Suzuki - Enduro for forest roads
80 FL - An okay bike, but old school at a time I wanted more. Hence the 88 EVO.
88 FLHS - The first real touring Harley, opened up the world beyond my time zone
80 CM400T - Honda - After my divorce, garage sale for $ 200, got me back on wheels when my only furniture I owned was a leaky queen air mattress. I have hated Coleman ever since.
05 C50 - Suzuki - Met great people who are still my friends, fun bike, affordable. Toured the West. It is what I bought after selling the Honda above.
76 R75/6 - BMW - Just a bike, nice but still just a bike. I would not recommend one as who wants an adequate bike.
08 T-100 Bonneville - Triumph - Great bike, just not better than the sporty. Figured I needed to owe a Brit bike before I died. But the new Thruxton is looking pretty good.
96 XL883 - Bronson tribute and time machine for my 16 year old brain.
10 V7 Racer - Moto Guzzi - Style, fun, under powered for what it could have been.
81 XS650 - Yamaha - the storm project. A winter project.
10 FLHR - Perfection on two. This has been a perfect bike for me.

The '10 FLHR and the '96 XL883 do for my riding all that I could need.
My FLHR can strip down for runs to Taco Thursday at city hall, or add the King Tour pack, my girlfriend and take off for more than 2 weeks. Perfect.
I made my '96 XL883 into a Bronson tribute bike, but it was also a time machine for my 16 year old XLH of the '60s and 70s. Then came Bronson came out in 1969 and here was a movie about "MY MOTORCYCLE" and Bonnie Bedalia. It is my errand runner, my commuter, my I need to clear my head and run a few canyons, be back later today.
That said, when I owned each bike listed above, it was a great bike, just on some the greatness did not last very long. These have staying power. Their replacements will have to be even better.

1985 Honda 125R Moved off the horse ranch and definitely wasn't a street bike
2004 883C I had started doing considerably more highway miles and it wasn't suited for it
2006 Low Rider Still have and may ride it in to the ground

Too many to remember, first bike was a Bonanza minibike, 3hp Tecumseh engine...circa 1965-66. Got my first ticket on it from Oakland PD.

That is so sad to get a ticket on a mini. Reminds me of hubby getting a ticket in a 1973 Vega. He had been working on it forever and took it on one of those back roads in Lincoln, Alabama. County sheriff got him going 75! I didn't know a Vega could do 75

1972 Honda 350SL (8th Grade) burned it up
1957 Triumph Trophy 650 (High School) sold to friend
1977 Kawasaki 750 2 stroke (scariest) fast but unreliable, smoked a lot
1979 Harley FLH 80" (First Harley) traded for 1940 Ford
1979 80" David Allen Coe's old chopper bought at Sherriff auction (should have kept)
1983 FXR 80" (sold for funds)
2004 Electra Glide Classic 88" (super reliable) sold for funds
2007 FLHP Road King Police (current) my favorite and will keep forever
