Default Electrical Issue

So took the bike out for its maiden voyage since owning it the other day, ran great and seemed to work all the bugs out (bike had been sitting for 2 years prior to me owning it). Problems arose when the rain came and I went to turn on the headlight and naturally no headlight or tailight (brake light working fine). So fast forward a few days I got the chance to pull the fuse block and the fuse for the lights was a 20 amp which is supposed to be a 15 amp if I'm not mistaken and it was blown, so I put a new 15 amp fuse in to try it out and the lights did not turn on however it did immediately blow the 15 amp fuse. Obviously this means I have a short somewhere but just putting this out there to get a lead on some common issues with this??? For reference the bike is a 2002 Sportster 883, previous owner did change headlight out at some point

very familiar... bike light switch/module was modified by previous owner to include an all off switch I guess you could say... everything was tested beforehand and in working order, when rain came realized switch was off, turned switch on and pulled over shortly after to discover problem and bike was parked

The 'common issue' here seems to be messed up electrics thanks to a PO. Not the bike's or your fault! The only way out is to trace what he's done, remove what isn't necessary and identify any damaged/faulty wiring. There's not a lot any of us can do to help, except encourage you to tackle it!

If you can't trace it, it might save you more time to just rewire the lights.

Start with the easiest things first. Unplug the light or light bulb and put a new fuse in and flip the switch. Might be a bad light.
Take your time and look at everything. What else powers up when that switch goes on? If it is just the headlight then it can only be the switch, bad connection or wire shorting or just a bad light.
Good luck
