CVO to trike
Has anyone out there converted their CVO,s to a trike. If so how happy were ye with change.Any pictures. Also is there any previous threads on subject .Should explain,my wife to nervous on 2 wheels.thinks a trike be ok.loose to much on my 2012 Ultra CVO to sell or trade.tri glide is very basic and ud spend a lot to get it near CVO standard. Also think independent suspension the way to go.not great roads where I live.Any advice welcomed.

A Ultra CVO is just another Harley touring bike. There is nothing special about it that would make converting it different from converting any other Ultra and there have been plenty of those done. You'll be keeping everything you already have from the swing arm forward on a conversion. Possibly, you'll be changing out the triple tree if you want easier steering, and adding reverse but that's about it. The rest of the bike stays as is. The tour pack can stay. The seat can stay. You lose the swing arm, shocks, rear fender, and rear wheel. Nothing forward of the swing arm, front end, the engine, or transmission has to change. As far as how happy you'll be, you will be as happy as any other owner of a touring bike conversion has been.

With IRS I know what one of the big pros is, but what are the cons? I converted a Roadking with a IRS Champion kit. I test rode a Triglide before I made the switch and I don't see any cons to the conversion at all. My trike rides better, has more storage space than a tri and has all the advantages of a Roadking that it originally had. I also got mechanical reverse which I much prefer to the Triglide electric. Converting a Ultra to a trike gives you a even more tri like trike with the fairing and all. What does a Tri have that you don't? Is it just the reverse?

Ultra Glide / Lehman Renagade conversion
I also have ridden some newer Tri-Glides . IMO, the Lehman/Champion trike conversion with the independent rear end with coil overs, easy steer triple tree, and mechanical reverse make it more enjoyable than a stock tri-glide. Did a little motor work and gear change also, and very happy with it !

The dealers in my area have no problem servicing the Harley parts of my conversion. Mine is beyond warranty anyway so that doesn't concern me a bit. I still don't see any cons to a conversion unless you prefer electric reverse and you worry about warranty stuff which I don't. We could debate tri vs conversion till the cows come home and it wouldn't change a thing. No matter which way a guy goes, Tri or conversion, we are all on 3 wheels and enjoying the ride. That's about all that really counts anyway. Trikes get a bad rap from many and it's their loss as far as I'm concerned. I'm loving mine and I wish I had taken the plunge a long time ago.

Our trike has an 18" H-D Reaper front and tire availability is fine.
Nothing wrong with a Tri Glide or Freewheeler, if that's what you want.
