Default Noticed the right muffler loose

I just noticed just before I took off the muffler to remove rear wheel I noticed the muffler is loose. At the time I didn't think nothing of it till it was time to put them back on. After I tightened everything on the right muffler is still loose so now not sure whats up with this. Any ideas why?

Where is it loose? At the rear, the rubber isolator may be shot. New ones are inexpensive.

If it's loose where it clamps onto the pipe then use some exhaust sealant?

I would try a new clamp, as far as exhaust sealer goes It works but the next time you need to take them off you may have a problem.

Yup,it's the clamp where the muffler join the pipe. It's almost like the clamps not doing anything

Joe I had the same problem on my Road King. No matter how tight I tightened the clamp bolt it would still shake loose. A new set of clamps fixed it. Go ahead and buy a pair and replace both sides, I think they were around 7 or 8 dollars from the local HD dealer for the pair.

Joe as mentioned the clamps just seem to quit clamping. I try not to use a sealer but have in some cases.

Certainly try some new clamps first

Good Luck WP

I use RTV at the joint. Not to keep things tight, but to keep the joint from leaking. Never a problem taking muffler off when I need to. RTV is what the factory used, by the way, at least that's what was on mine when it was new.

Get new clamps and a smear of RTV inside the muffler.

Those clamps are defective. They aren't able to be screwed down to a small enough diameter to tighten down on the pipe. I took mine and chucked them up in a vise and wailed on them with a 4lb sledge hammer for a while so they could be tightened properly. They work much better now.
