Default Need help

Hello ladies and gents,

I have a 97 Roadking. Was riding the other day and my speedo stopped working as well as the light for my gas gauge? Left turn signal indicator on my dash stopped working too as well as turn signal cancellation on both sides? Was on the hwy doing 160km/h for a few kilometres and then it happened. I'm thinking a short from the high speed vibration? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Edster 69

More likely it's a bad/corroded connection. Try pulling apart the connections and checking for corrosion. Sometimes just the act of pulling them apart and putting them back together will clean them enough for things to start working again.

I am also having electrical problems with my 1992 FLSTC. I am in the process of replacing and upgrading the rear wires and lights. It has been suggested to me and i am strongly considering replacing the main wiring harness. I have some visible corrosion on connectors.

Portlandron and Sorg67 thanks for your input I'll definitely take a look. Are you guys referring to connectors under the dash/tank cover as well signal bulb sockets?

I am far from an expert. I am just learning. I would look at whatever I could get easy access to.

On my bike there are connectors under the seat that are easy to get to. I would look at those and all the bulb sockets I could easily get to.

My bike has other connectors under the gas tank. They are harder to get to.

My understanding is that tracking down electrical problems can be difficult. Several people have strongly suggested that I replace the main wiring harness. I am strongly considering it, but I understand it is a tedious chore.

Check and clean the connections under the tank dash, if that doesn't do it you may want to pull the headlight out so you can get to the connections behind there. Also clean/ check the connections in the switches at the hand grips.
Good luck.

Under the dash would be a good place to start.

I had a problem with my 1997 Softail not starting. Traced it to a bad connection under the dash panel between the tank.

Ya, flip that dash over and pull the seat up, you have a ground corroded or loose in one of the connector bodies, a single ground wire can possess all the things you have acting up. Check your ground on the battery while you have the seat up also
