Harley has changed the look of many of their bikes recently, which has angered some of their loyal fans who loved the old look.

If this change backfired for Harley and they decided to bring back those loyal fans by making new bikes with Pan, Shovel, or Evo engines in them but with new electronics and a new manufacturer's warranty, would you buy one?

Car manufacturers have made new versions of the Mustang, Camaro, and Charger so it has been done before. They already own/have the tooling, patents, and skill force to make them, so why not?

 

The car manufacturers are not using old motors in the new retro cars.

 

Part of the charm of the old iron is that they are...old iron.


Nope. I've had several pans and shovels, loved 'em all, but that was then, this is now, and today's engines are superior in all ways.


Except the idle.

 

No. I own vintage bikes for the stories they tell and I have to get my game face on to ride them.

 

It's not about the "look".

The car guys aren't making reproduction, 1960's muscle cars. They are making 2017 cars with styling similar to some of those old cars and with the same names.

I can (and do) still buy all the Evo's I could ever want.

 

No. My Shovel is the newest bike I'll ever own. The old stuff is all I've ever known. Love the over-engineered simplicity.

 

One, there’s no way they’d ever be able to build any of those motors today and have them EPA compliant.

Two, if you’re talking REALLY old-school, like with carbs and points and chain oilers and all the other really cool 40’s, 50’s or even 80’s technology - NO! Just like if they put that in a new Mustang or Camaro, I bet you couldn’t find buyers for ‘em. I would’t buy one, and I grew up with those cars. They had their time, but I’ve gotten spoiled with the newer tech.

That’s why they call it ‘progress’.

 

How about this classic with a M8 114 on it.

 

A computerized Evo has zero appeal to me.

That glued on fake gas cap on some of the new Softails irritates the **** out of me even though it should not matter.

I am kind of waiting for somebody somewhere to put a carburetor on an M8 just out of curiosity.

 

That is close to what I was thinking wideglide, but with a modern 124 M8 that LOOKS like a Panhead. I love the look of the Pan, and even the Knuckle. At this stage of my life though, I enjoy reliability. What I was mentioning is similar to what Billy Joel does with his 20th Century Cycles. The bikes he has in his museaum, both vintage and pseudo-vintage are amazing!
