Greetings! New Guy riding in Stuttgart, Germany
Greetings one and all,
I'm a new forum member, currently living, working and riding in the Stuttgart, Germany area. I'm originally from Ohio, but now call Texas home. That said, I've been overseas for the past 10 years, first in Naples, Italy and since September 2011, in Germany.
Since August 2015, I've been the proud owner of a 2015 Ultra Limited. Before that, I had a 2012 Wide Glide (sold in 2014) and still have a 1996 Honda Transalp I bought while in Naples, and a 1984 Honda V65 Magna I bought new. The Magna's in storage in the states. I've been riding, off and on, since 1981 when I had a Honda 550-Four.
Since getting the Ultra Limited, I've tried my best to get as many miles under my belt to interesting places in Europe as I could. In 2015 I rode to Birkendorf (Germany) Harley Days and European Bike Week at Faak am See (Austria), and an American Legion Riders Veterans Day ride (and ceremony) to the American Cemetery in St. Avold, France. In 2016, we took in Erlangen (Germany) Toy Run, European HOG Rally in Portoroz (Slovenia), Prague (Czech Republic) Harley Days, Ride the Alps in Garmish (Germany) and both Memorial and Veterans Day Ceremonies at Patch Barracks, Stuttgart, Germany. In 2017, we started with the European H-D Festival in St. Tropez (France), followed by another Erlangen Toy Run, a four-bike venture into the Italian and Austrian Alpine passes (including Stelvio), a group ride to the Bavarian Alps around Bertchesgarten "Eagles Nest" (Germany) then a grand trip to Scotland and Ireland, including Thunder in the Glens at Aviemore (Scotland). 2017 also saw Memorial and Veterans Day bike-borne activities again in Stuttgart.
2018 has started with a New Years Day ride into the Black Forest. It was only about 2 hours and 85km, but it was a wonderful start to the year. Already we are planning to attend the 115th Anniversary HOG rally in Prague ( 5-8 July), Erlangen Toy Run again, a trip to Normandy (France) for the 74th Anniversary of the D-Day landings, Faak am See again, Ride the Alps again, and if things go right, a grand Scandinavian-Baltic-Northern European run through Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland (Polish Harley Days) and back home to Germany. This may be my last full riding season in Europe, so I'm trying to get as many bucket-list destinations knocked out as possible. Somewhere in all there, I need to work some too, my employer doesn't keep me in Europe just to ride!
Hope to catch you on the road somewhere.
Todd
