Default $99 to flash WHIM

I ordered my WHIM module and obligatory Harley Davidson Sena 20S headsets (no stereo without it) from Boardtracker. They're much cheaper than my dealer, and I don't like paying the dealer to do something I can do myself. So, I call the dealer and ask how much he'd flash it for? He said that since I didn't buy the unit from him, and didn't have him install it....$99. If I would have done everything thru him, he'd do it for free. How much do your dealers charge for just a flashing?

My dealership has done all my flashes for free. Maybe call a few others that are close to you

That’s seems awfully excessive, but I can understand his position

Cost me an 18 pack of beer at my local dealership. The tech and service writer said no charge, so beer for them!!! Not the first time we’ve had that payment method.

I talked to my dealer today about flashing my head unit, he said if I had anything else done, a service or whatever he’d do it free, but if he had to write up a work order he’d be forced to charge me the minimum, 57 bucks

After the dealer I bought the bike from quoted me an hour of labor, which is $99, I called my next closest dealer. Mind you, the one I bought it from is my closest, and that's two hours away. My next closest, at two and a half hours away, said the same thing...a C note. So, I called the next closest one. Three hours away. The service manager said, "Well, if all you want is the flashing, that'll be $15 or $20". So, I installed the WHIM today (very easily done) and made an appointment for a three hour ride.

If you guys have mechanic friends that have a snap on scanner like the Ethos with the 17.2 software, they can flash your radio, set you amp module, program your fobs if you need one programmed, bleed your ABS, etc. Very similar to Harley's Digital Tech.

Update.....I took the 3 hour ride to my third closest dealer. They were wonderful. They did the flashing for $20 when the two stealerships wanted $99. It was a 10 minute procedure. The honest dealer will be getting more business from me in the future. The stealerships will not.
