On my RK, I ran one of these off the battery charging cable, then ran a USB cable up under the tank to the bars. It was an easy installation, mounted the unit with velco against frame above the starter. That way I would just disconnect the unit and plug my battery tender in while the bike is in the garage.

I've never messed with tanks on either of the Harleys I've owned. Heard it was easy, but didn't realize it was quite that easy.
