17 & 27 will both let you make good time, 4 lanes and places to stop. I suggest 27 up to 44 east and then you could just jump on 95 up to Ormond Beach...

Like tht 'old look' Dyna!
I'd suggest 17N to 27N to 19N to 40E which will bring you right into Ormond Beach.

What no one reads the question the OP posted.....
He said he's leaving at 4AM....at that time to get up to the beach, you can take I-4....and since it will be dark, probably best since there will be less criters on the road.
Stop letting him know of your biases.....

If you take this route the ride will be long but you will get no interstate and it will have scenic areas and permit some nice rest stops. Probably 7 hours.
Keep in mind that a 4am departure is black hole departure time and you will NOT see sunrise until Fort Pierce. There might be animals on the road. So use extreme caution.
Take 80 east towards Labelle, then take 29 to 27 near Palmdale, Continue on 27 to Fritz st/70. Take 70 east to Okeechobee Blvd then take Delaware Ave and then stop at The Original Tiki Bar & Restaurant along the water in Ft Pierce at 2 Avenue A, Fort Pierce, FL 34950. It will be too early but then there was a small shop that made sandwiches/breakfast that you can walk to about 1/2 block west...either way you can rest for a few minutes if needed along the water.
Then north Causeway(second bridge) to A1A going north to Melbourne and then stop for pizza at Bizzarro on the beach (sold by the slice) and sit outside or walk over to sidewalk along beach located at 4 Wave Crest Ave, Indialantic, FL 32903.. It is going to be to early for Pizza but there was a coffee shop just before.
Then continue ride to reach Cocoa Beach and maybe stop at Ron Jons surf shop.
The ride along the water kinda/sorta ends and you cross bridge going west and ride north along west side of intracoastal (although you do not see it ) and cross back to ocean at Dunlawton Ave/Bridge near Port orange/ South Daytona. Note: As you reach Dunlawton Bridge, if you are hungry or just want a drink along the water there is a place on Ponce Inlet ( sit outdoors/ food in a basket along the water) about 6 miles south of that bridge on a1a at the light house...just go south until you reach light house and you will see it....do not speed in Daytona area or near light house and do a complete stop at stop signs near light house and beach area.
