Default The Fix Is In!!!

I finally installed the sealed side cover on my M8’s transmission tonight. It looks the bike came with it.

The last picture shows where I put the vent hole for the primary. Now to see if my theory is correct. By the time Steve Cole and I test six or seven cams in this bike it should be evident that it’s working or failing.

Default Success!!!!!🎉

I received the nut from Max today. I have it installed and torqued. The runout is <.002”. We are well within the parameters set by SKF for this seal. The side cover will be installed and field testing will proceed. Thanks Max!

When you get tired of that nice bike being at the dealer more than it’s in your garage, let me know. I have another side cover I can take to the machinist. I can get you done for about $200. I’ll know if it works by the end of March.

I'm looking forward to the results. The way I see it, this has got to keep the trans oil from getting to the primary.

On the vent operation... It appears the venting will occur through the mainshaft and then the actuator housing, to atmosphere behind the chrome decorative cover. Is that correct? And what is the radial positioning of the vent hole (12 O/C, 1 O/C, etc.)?

If it were me, the only thing I'd keep my eye on during testing (besides the trans oil transfer) is any potential primary oil leakage through the vent. A minor concern but one to answer nonetheless.

I think you nailed it.

Yes that is how the vent works. I put it right at the top of the actuator. I really don’t think oil will migrate from the primary. It is possible that there might be some condensation come from the hole.

I will leave the cover off for a while so I can monitor the vent.

When I pulled the actuator there was oil behind it. And why wouldn’t there be. There is nothing to stop it and no where for it to go.

So are you going to mass produce them and start selling them to forum members?
