Default 84 flhtc saddlebag

I am wondering what the differences between an 84 flhtc saddlebag & lid vs an 85 flhtc. I’ve recently sustained damage to my left saddlebag lid and am looking for a replacement. Any info or help would be much appreciated.

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. I think you'll find those bags were the same for models from 1980 through to the 1990s, when the side-hinged style was introduced.

?
If you look at the part numbers...they changed in 85...not sure why...the rear latch changed...more like a tour-pac latch

i think the turn signals were mounted in the bag in 84. in 85 the signals were in the light bar. the covers should be the same

Again...if you look at the part number for the lid it changed in 85.....and the rear latch is completely different.

Mine are exactly like the 1st pic posted. I can’t seem to find replacement lids for an 84. 85 are very common and wondered if they would work. I guess I could retro fit the locking tab and hinge to fit my year saddlebag.
thoughts?? Thank you for all the input so far, really is a big help.

80-84's are very hard to find...I believe you can make the 85-92 version work...just a matter of filling/drilling some holes...just not a bolt on.

I believe all hardware is riveted on. Should be no big deal I believe. Of course I’ve been wrong before.
