Default Loud shitty exhaust noise

So I thought I would ask the choir, what the F*&% is up with these horrendously loud exhausts???? I rarely see Sportys with these gawd awful **** pipes, but there is a good 40-50% of the big frame bikes that run pipes that are so F%&$ing loud you can literally hear them for miles and bottom line is that it is not only loud, they sound like ****. Even my kid sister buys the loud pipes save lives bullshit, but if you are relying on your exhaust note as a safety device, park the bike.

They must clash with white bottom canvas shoes and man capris.

Yeah pretty much, I hear them and wonder why don't you just fasten a garbage can to your header, same effect.

I generally come down on both sides of this.

On the one hand, I do like the sound of a nice running Harley. I personally have V&H Side Shots on my Nightster. They're not exactly quiet, but not over the top either in my mind. I also try to avoid being obnoxious with them.

On the other hand, I've seen those that are totally into being obnoxious and have to admit that I can find it annoying at times. Doesn't do any of the rest of the riding community any favors.

Nah, this is straight up noise pollution, no rationalization on the planet to have pipes that loud. Its noise for the sake of noise.

Or do people actually cruise around and think they are bad *** because their bike is the shittiest sound clap trap in the hood???

I should clarify that this is not a group ride or a bunch of HA's rolling through town, its the suburban wannabes who can't ride their way out of paper bag and usually have pretty nice bikes, which IMHO, **** them up with these super loud pipes.

I kinda agree with you. I have never liked loud pipes just for the sake of being loud.

Some people have a backwards way of thinking... they think just because its loud "it sounds great" and they just love being obnoxious look at me types.

Personally I think LOUD pipes and good sounding pipes are almost never found in the same pipe. I hate overly loud exhausts and terrible sounding exhausts which neary always go hand in hand. I even think my Bassani 2-1 road rage pipe is a bit too loud on my dyna but it actually sounds nice with a deeper grumble rather than a high pitch tinny rattle scream coming from some drag pipes.
