Default How long would you expect a new battery to last with lights left on.

Let a buddy jump on my bike for a ride.
He hit the kill switch when he was done.
He is not usta the ignition switch on the tank and left it in the engaged position, lights on etc.
I have a 2 month old battery on the bike.
2004 Dyna Wide Glide, no radio, no usb, no aftermarket accessories.
So the bike was just left in the on position, headlight on, no turn signals.
Ambiant temperature 85 degrees.
How long should one expect to be able to have the ignition in the engaged/on position and still be able to crank the bike over.
Thanks in advance for your reply and let stay on topic with the replies

Depends on the AH rating of the battery and the wattage of the lights left on. A 55 watt headlight alone will draw just over 4.5 amps. A calcium enriched battery is more capable when it comes to deep discharge cycling and has a higher CCA rating. On a standard battery with lower AH rating I would wager it may not have enough left in it after an hour of the headlight left in to crank the engine to get it to fire.

Once I let a buddy jump on my bike for a ride.

He wrecked my front end and broke his leg.

You live and you learn.

I would expect about three hours. Do not blame your buddy. This one is on you.

I will say 30 mins with a standard bulb or 2 hrs with a led bulb . You only have to get to 10 volts on the battery and you done .

And don't leave your flashers on for about 45 minutes when your buddy is waiting for a tow truck on the side of the road.

I left the ignition on once in my Road King. Went in my buddy's house, shot the ****, had a beer, told a few lies, and went out to the bike after about an hour and a half. The battery was VERY weak, and dragged for a second and then started. All was well after that.

I'm sure it took a couple of months off the life of the battery, though.

You got to wonder why Harley Davidson hasn't developed the technology to kill power after 5 minutes of sitting parked with the ignition switch on.
