Default How strict is HD Warranty on performance upgrades with the M8?

Hello,

Just purchased a used 2017 RK with warranty until April 22, 2019. Just curious how strict HD is with their warranty claims in relation to performance upgrades? Looking to do a high flow air kit, slip on mufflers, decat and re-tune. None of the parts are screamin eagle. My guess is it will be a problem. Just curious what has been M8 owners experience on this.

Thanks!

it used to be that unless they could prove your modifications caused the problem, they would cover it, but im not 100% on wether that is applicable to 2017+ models

Removing the cat makes the bike no longer "street legal" and the dealerships are required to void your warranty based on that alone. Also, the only EPA certified/allowable tuner on the market currently is the SEPT from Harley. Dealers can see if you've tuned with anything else and that will also void your warranty as it is, again, no longer "street legal". Many people will tell you something different one way or another, but the fact is, those are the only two things that you have listed that will void a warranty. Now that being said, it really is all up to the dealers and whether or not they report the non EPA compliant modifications. Some may let it slide and some may not, but if caught doing warranty work on a non compliant bike, they receive a massive fine.

Also, just search for old threads on this issue. There's already 4 million out there and this dead horse gets beat every day.

Thanks for the links. Three of them were all from 2016/2017. One did have info from this year. I will just contact my local dealer and blatantly ask them. Also thanks for the info TStew1.

Very strict. As part of the EPA consent decree Harley will flag and void the warranty if emmisions equipment is changed, replaced, altered by anything other than EPA approved components.
Sucks, but its how it is.

its very very well documented here, I'm surprised you haven't seen any of the hundreds of threads on the subject, its cut and dried, use anything other than a 50 state legal product, and your powertrain warranty is void, the short answer is stick with SE if you want to keep your warranty. they are now forced my court order to be very strict with the 17/18 bikes.

Remember, each dealership is a privately owned franchise, so they can tell you anything they want.
HD corporate has the final word, and they are bound by the consent decree, not by what the dealer tells you.

I just picked those because they had the most replies. The information is still relevant.
