Default Clutch Basket ID......

Hey all... Going back to a OEM chain setup on my 98 Fatboy. I didn't realize that when I took off my primary and put it away to storage that the clutch Basket and clutch pack are not oem. With the following pics I'm hoping some one can help id it.. The basket is all aluminum and there are 9 frictions and 8 steels. If some one can I'd it, I'm also hoping you can give me an idea of how much power it might be able to handle. One more note there are no manufacturing markings except for the 4488831 on the clutch pack cover..

Also if some one can tell me who makes a gasket for the inner primary to the engine case. The lip is no longer there for an o-ring so I'm gonna have to use a gasket... Thanks again Bob....

Does have a part number 4388841.

36 tooth basket

first plate, narrower than the other 8 because it houses an anti rattle spring for the entire clutch pack. The other 8 friction disks have 2x the amount of fiber..

Bob, that's interesting! Never seen anything like it, so look forward to seeing if anyone can answer your question.

Did a little more research. It appears that this is the first year of the new style OEM basket and plate kit... I also looked into Primo Rivera and BDL, they both also make a clutch pack for this basket. Still though I'm not real sure it's HD cause I couldn't find any HD markings on anything. The only marking I did find was on the ears of the fibers A425 and A5. One thing I do know is that this clutch pack has at least 30K on it and it still looks like new...

I can't get over the thickness of those friction plates! I'm sure my 1990 ones are nothing like them. And that black 'cover' looks completely wrong, I don't see anything like it in the parts websites. Is there a possibility that is an add-on, such as a balancing device? There is a brand, the name of which I don't recall, who make balancing devices for wheels etc, which I suspect have mercury or something similar in them, inside the outermost rim.

Here ya go - got it! Suntech Balance Masters.

I can well imagine that on your solid-mount that could have a real benefit, so if you haven't been using it will be interesting to see what you think of it. What I suspect we can conclude is that you may have a stock clutch there, with that add-on.

Wow thanks Graham... I appreciate your time in research. Going from the belt drive back to this, I'll try to see if I can feel a difference in which one is smoother..

I thought they were outlawing heavy metal usage like that?

I just finished reading up on it on their website. Man that balancer cover is $180.00.. thanks again Graham...

Looks like you have a typo with your part number as compared to the picture. You typed "4488831" but the picture looks like "4388841".
Any way it looks like grbrown provided the answer.
BTW if you Google "4388841" here's the results:

Bob, my pleasure! I admire our mercury hi-lo thermometer every morning! A relic of wiser times.....
