Default Charging issues

I have a 2009 Sportster 1200C. Going down the road the battery light and engine light comes on. I can stop, turn the bike off for a minute or two, restart it with no further problems, sometimes. I have been told it could be the ignition switch losing power to the regulator/stator.

Could be a few different things. How old is the battery and has it been tested. Also check the battery cables.

I had a similar issue years ago. Ended up being the ground cable from the battery to the frame ground (Both were loose by the way). It's worth a look.

Be sure to check both ends of the battery cables including the negative cable where it attaches to the top of the engine

Be sure to check both ends of the battery cables including the negative cable where it attaches to the top of the engine
And the one underneath that connects the engine to the frame.
A voltmeter will be useful to see what the voltage at the battery is with the engine on a fast tick over.
The routing of the stator cable on some Sportsters has them get chaffed on the crankcase, so that is something else to check.
All this before you suspect the regulator and start buying stuff.
